Singability is actually on the "rubric" I mention at the start of this. Definitely a consideration.  Sometimes we sacrifice a bit of immediate singability for other great benefits, trusting that the congregation can pick up the melody after a few times. I agree.  There is another consideration.  Is it easily singable?  Sometimes great songs are very hard for the everyday person to sing.  One of the great things about music...especially for kids is if the melody can be easily found and learned and then the words will stay with the singer longer.  That may be why early hymns were written to old tavern tunes. If you are looking at two songs and one is easier to learn then another and they both express the same thought...go with the easier one for people to sing and thus learn.
